America's Family Farmers: Producing Safe and Healthy Food
Farmers worldwide have adopted crops developed through agricultural biotechnology, in order to produce high-quality, wholesome food while also enhancing the environment.
To date, its use in California involves mostly cotton and feed-corn production, but biotechnology has the potential to bring environmental benefits in many others crops by reducing the application of crop-protection materials and fertilizer, therefore lowering the number of passes through a field, which will further minimize soil compaction and diesel emissions. Reduced tillage on our land can preserve precious topsoil, and biotech crops can provide California farmers with higher yields.
